I’ve came across a interesting article by Zoli Erdos titled Would You Spend Your Lunch Money on a Web 2.0 Service? It contains a couple of points that are very similar to our business model here at Paymo and we really believe this is the way for the future. Some quotes below:

The genius in the Freemium model is that it allows new services to gain traction, essentially using us, free users as the marketing vehicle, then is we get hooked, we’re likely upgrade to enhanced services for a fee. This is neither “free” nor “bait-and-switch” – a completely acceptable, normal business model. In fact I think – especially in bad times like now – a switch by a popular service after their beta period to a fully paid model is also reasonable, albeit not easy.

While I never particularly liked it, let’s face it, the free, ad-supported model worked for a while – but it’s about to come crashing down fast. That leaves us with the fundamental rule in business: deliver value, get paid.

We’re extremely happy to announce the mobile time tracking beta version of Paymo called Paymo2Go, a lite version designed to be used on your mobile phone while away from the computer. Paymo2Go uses the Yahoo! Go 3.0 mobile framework, an all-in-one offering that lets you enjoy the best of the Internet on your phone—for free. (a big thanks to the team over there that was very responsive and helpful, you can check out their dev blog at http://mobile.yahoo.net/developer/blog/).

In order to use Paymo2Go you need to take the following steps:

1. You need a Paymo account, if you don’t already have one you can sign-up here

2. You need a Yahoo active account, you can register here

3. You need a Yahoo! Go 3.0 compatible phone. Paymo2Go runs on over 280 phones so it’s very probable that your phone is supported!

4. If you are the owner of an iPhone, Windows Mobile device, Nokia S60 phone point your browser to beta.m.yahoo.com

If you own another type of device that is supported, point your phone’s browser to get.go.yahoo.com and follow the steps on screen to install Yahoo! Go 3.0

5. Browse the widget gallery, install Paymo2Go and start punching in time!

Paymo2Go is still in beta so you might encounter small glitches while using it. We’ll be working hard to fix any problems and we’ll add some new features in the weeks to come. As always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible (usually within 24 hours).

Dear Paymo users, we’re excited to announce that our new online invoicing module is in beta and ready for everyone to test. We tried to keep the simplicity of Paymo in our add-on module too, and we’re hoping you’ll find it easy to use and helpful.

Paymo invoicing will be available free of charge during the beta testing period. After the beta period Paymo Invoicing will be available for
$9.99/month without any limitations (we really don’t like limitations).

Before using the Invoice module please make sure you take the following steps:

visit the Settings section and fill in the forms related to invoicing

edit the contact information for your clients in the clients section

all your projects have now a new setting where you can set the hourly rate

for the project. make sure you fill in the appropriate data if you intend to create accurate invoices using previously created projects

each project task has billable/non-billable switch, please make the appropriate changes to existing tasks

If you need any help with the invoicing module don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll get back to you asap.
